Day 1 – Halifax
Welcome to Nova Scotia’s Provincial Capital. This attractive city is a bustling hub of art galleries, shops, museums, restaurants, sidewalk cafes and vibrant nightlife centred around the picturesque waterfront. Officially founded in 1749 the history dates back even further, to times of the Mi’kmaq Natives, European Fishermen and the early Acadians, who came long before the British. Overnight Halifax.
Day 2 – Halifax
This morning you will enjoy a Halifax City Tour which includes such highlights as Citadel Hill, Halifax Harbour, Historic Properties, Bedford Basin, Point Pleasant Park and much more. Spend the remainder of the day on Halifax’s Waterfront Boardwalk area and join one of the many tours offered; a favorite for kids is the Harbour Hopper – a fun-filled amphibious adventure on land and water. A visit to the excellent Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is a must! See the unique collection of the memorabilia collected after the tragic Titanic disaster. Overnight Halifax.
Day 3 – Halifax/Western Shore via Peggy’s Cove
Depart Halifax and drive along the south shore following the Lighthouse Route. En route visit Peggy’s Cove, a picturesque fishing village surrounded by bare granite and coastal barrens and home to Nova Scotia’s most visited lighthouse. Also in the area is the Swissair Memorial Site. Further along the route you will drive to the Community of Chester, a quant little town with a busy waterfront. If time permits visit the Chester Playhouse. Continue on to the Western Shore. Overnight Western Shore.
Day 4 –Western Shore/White Point
Spend the morning exploring the area. Why not take a kayaking trip or whale watching tour from the waterfront. In the afternoon depart Western Shore and drive the short distance to Mahone Bay – one of the most beautiful towns in Canada and its crown jewel is the line of three elegant Churches that grace the banks of the harbour. Continue on to Lunenburg, a unique town in terms of architecture and now an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lunenburg is the birthplace of the famous Bluenose, built in 1921. Whilst here, visit the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic situated on the waterfront and the Lunenburg Marine Park – Atlantic Canada’s first. Be sure to take a “Trot in Time” on horse and buggy – a 35 minute journey from the waterfront area and weave back and forth through the streets to view the beautiful town of Lunenburg. Continue on to White Point where you will relax and enjoy your surroundings. Overnight White Point.
Day 5 – White Point
Day at leisure to relax and enjoy your surroundings. This resort boast a stunning 1 km white sand beach and has the most diverse and numerous recreation amenities and services that will certainly be enjoyed at any age. You have many choices from walking along the beach, swimming in the saltwater pool, outdoor and indoor games and even a nightly bonfire with a marshmallow roast. You will certainly have a fun filled day doing some of the many activities offered at this resort. Overnight White Point.
Day 6 – White Point/Digby
This morning, depart White Point and continue on to Kejimkujik Seaside – a wild and isolated stretch of coastline along Nova Scotia’s Atlantic Shore. Continue your journey through the Scenic Kejimkujik National Park – a spectacular inland National Park with walking trails to suit all levels and some of the best canoeing in Atlantic Canada. Visit the excellent visitor centre, which houses replicas of the native tools found, by archaeologists dating back 4500 years ago. Continue on to the Annapolis Valley Region – the ferry gateway to New Brunswick. This area is rich in tradition and offers a delightful blend of history, culture and panoramic scenery. Highlights include Fort Anne National Historic Site, Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens, Garrison Cemetery and the HMCS/CFB Cornwallis Military Museum to name but a few! Continue on to Smiths Cove. Overnight Digby.
Day 7 – Digby
Spend the day at Upper Clements Park. This is Atlantic Canada’s Premiere Fun Park destination that delivers thrilling rides and exciting entertainment, all in an enjoyable outdoor atmosphere. Thrill-seekers can fly 100 meters at speeds of up to 40 kms/hr on the new Zipline, soar through the treetops on the exciting wooden rollercoaster or plunge down the sky-high flume ride. Crash and bang in our bumper boats or whirl down a huge waterslide. The choices are endless at this amazing park. In the evening why not visit the Oakland Zoo – A fun adventure for all ages. This 50-acre zoo offers a relaxing atmosphere in a country like setting. You can stroll along and interact with a wide diversity of mammals, birds and reptiles. Overnight Digby.
Day 8 – Digby/Fundy National Park via ferry
Depart Digby and drive the short distance to Digby Ferry Terminal ready for your crossing over to Saint John. Arrive Saint John – New Brunswick’s largest city and is steeped in history with lots to see and do. Places to visit include Carleton Martello Tower National Historic Site, the old city market, Loyalist House, the New Brunswick Museum and probably the most famous – the Reversing Falls. Continue eastbound to the Fundy National Park – 206 square kilometres of steep coastal cliffs, forest clad hills, deep rich valleys and clear, rolling meadows. Fundy National Park is renowned for its hiking trails, with over 104 kms of trails to choose from, ranging from easy ½ km loops to a demanding 50 km circuit around the park. The park is a haven for bird watchers, golfers, cyclists, canoeists and naturalists. Overnight Fundy National Park.
Day 9 – Fundy National Park
Spend the day exploring this magnificent area. Visit Hopewell Cape – home of Hopewell Rocks. Visit the excellent Interpretive Centre on site before exploring these natural phenomena. Twice each day the highest tides in the world – up to 46 feet – flood the beach, and twice each day you can explore the floor of the Bay of Fundy at low tide! Created over thousands of years by the Bay of Fundy’s awesome tidal forces, these rock formations are a natural wonder not to be missed! Continue on to Moncton and spend the remainder of the day at Magic Mountain. Relax and enjoy the wave pool, the waterslides and the fun. Continue back to Fundy National Park. Overnight Fundy National Park.
Day 10 – Fundy National Park/Brackley Beach
Depart Fundy National Park early and drive over Confederation Bridge into Prince Edward Island. Upon entering PEI, visit Gateway Village which is located conveniently at the foot of the dramatic Confederation Bridge. A unique adventure awaits as you experience the legends of the land, sea and people. Continue along the Red Sands Shore north to Summerside. On arrival visit Spinnakers Landing on the attractive waterfront, bringing the shipbuilding era alive. Continue onto Charlottetown and take a stroll along the streets and retrace the footsteps of the Fathers of Confederation, taking in the sights of Charlottetown Harbour, the Governor’s Mansion, and the University of P.E.I. Continue on to Brackley Beach where you can spend the evening at the Drive-In Theatre or Mini Golf. Overnight Brackley Beach.
Day 11 –Brackley Beach
Today visit Cavendish – home of Anne of Green Gables and Avonlea and the village of Anne of Green Gables. Cavendish area has something to do for all ages. Visit one of the amusement parks, mini golf, water slides and restaurants that cater to all ages and taste. Other suggestions in the area are Green Gables, L.M. Montgomery’s Cavendish National Historical Site, Jurassic Bart’s Dinosaur Museum and Petting Farm or Ripley’s Believe it or Not to name a few! Drive back to Brackley Beach.
Day 12 – Brackley Beach/Baddeck
This morning depart Brackley Beach and continue on to Wood Islands ferry terminal. Take the NFL ferry across to Caribou, Nova Scotia (payable locally) a short scenic crossing of only 75 minutes. Continue on to the historic town of Pictou – known as the birthplace of New Scotland, it was here that the province’s first Scottish Highlanders landed on the ship ‘Hector’ in 1773. Pictou boasts an award-winning waterfront development that includes the Hector Heritage Quay, where a full scale replica of the Hector has being built using traditional ship building techniques. Depart Pictou and continue east along the Sunrise Trail and on to Cape Breton via the Canso Causeway and on to Baddeck. This scenic village overlooks the beautiful Bras d’Or Lakes and the most notable resident historically was Alexander Graham Bell – you can visit the National Historic Site named after him. Overnight Baddeck.
Day 13 – Baddeck
Depart Baddeck and continue on the Cabot Trail heading anticlockwise through the rocky splendor of Cape Breton’s northern shore, ascending to the incredible plateaus of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. The park has 26 hiking trails ranging from 20-minute short walks to challenging hikes through stunning mountain and coastal landscapes. Continue on to visit Cheticamp, which is located in the heart of L’Acadie on the Cabot Trail. The Cheticamp area is distinctly Acadian, with lots to do and see. Maybe enjoy a whale watching cruise from Cheticamp Harbour, visit Les Trois Pignons (The Three Gables) which houses the Dr. Elizabeth Gallery which displays a remarkable collection of the famous “Cheticamp hooking” in the form of rugs and tapestries. Other sties of interest are L’Eglise St. Pierre, a beautiful historic church built in 1893 and the Cheticamp outdoor theatre. Continue on to Baddeck. Overnight Baddeck.
Day 14 –Baddeck
Depart Baddeck and drive to Glace Bay, home of the Miners Museum and Marconi National Historic Site. Glace Bay is the beginning of the Marconi Trail, named after Guglielmo Marconi the Italian inventor, who sent the first transatlantic wireless message from here. Follow the trail to the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site the largest historical reconstruction in North America. Hear the cannons and muskets fire, watch the changing of the guard and meet the villagers at this meticulously preserved and recreated French fortification of over 250 years ago. Continue back to Baddeck. Overnight Baddeck.
Day 15 –Baddeck/Depart
Depart Baddeck and continue your drive back to Halifax International Airport, where you will drop off your rental car and get ready for your journey.
