Day 1 – Halifax

Welcome to Nova Scotia’s provincial capital, this attractive city is a bustling hub of art galleries, shops, museums, restaurants, sidewalk cafes and vibrant nightlife centred around the picturesque waterfront. Officially founded in 1749 the history dates back even further to times of the Mi’kmaq Natives, European Fishermen and the early Acadians who came long before the British. Halifax offers a Taste of Old World charm spiced up with a New World attitude – Please your palate of adventure. Amazing food, cool music, stunning architecture and unique shops all promise to give you a one-of-a-kind culinary experience. Why not enjoy a lovely meal at “Stories” at The Halliburton. Halifax’s “Best kept secret” is popular with travelers and locals alike. Overnight Halifax.

Day 2 – Halifax

This morning enjoy a city tour from Halifax Waterfront and take in the sights of Citadel Hill, Halifax Harbour, Historic Properties, Bedford Basin, Point Pleasant Park and much more. Spend the remainder of the day touring the downtown area. Maybe have a light lunch at Murphy’s Cable Wharf Restaurant, which is conveniently located in the heart of the waterfront. Later a visit to Alexander Keith’s Brewery as well as the excellent Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is a must! See the unique collection of the memorabilia collected after the tragic Titanic disaster. This evening why not experience the Grafton Street Dinner Theatre – Entertaining Halifax for more that 22 years, The Grafton Street Dinner Theatre provides audiences with a unique dining experience. Music, comedy and interactive characters set the mood as you dine on the flavors of Nova Scotia. Overnight Halifax.

Day 3 – Halifax/Lunenburg

Depart Halifax and drive the south shore along the Lighthouse Route. En route visit Peggy’s Cove, a picturesque fishing village surrounded by bare granite and coastal barrens and home to Nova Scotia’s most visited lighthouse. Visit the Sou’Wester Restaurant and Gift Shop which overlooks the famous lighthouse and specializes in home-style meals. Continue on to Mahone Bay, a relaxing seaside town re-known for its quiet beauty and internationally known churches. Further along the route you will arrive in Lunenburg, a unique town in terms of architecture and now an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lunenburg is the birthplace of the famous Bluenose built in 1921. Whilst here, visit the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic, situated on the waterfront and the Lunenburg Marine Park – Atlantic Canada’s first. Tonight you have a choice of casual street-side cafes, relaxed outdoor terraces, chic bistros and elegant fine dining rooms. Overnight Lunenburg.

Day 4 – Lunenburg/Annapolis Royal

This morning do a little exploring of the Lunenburg area before you head north to the Kejimkujik National Park, a spectacular inland National Park with walking trails to suit all levels and some of the best canoeing in Atlantic Canada. En route visit Van Dyk’s Wild Blueberry Juice – made from only Canada Grade “A” Nova Scotia Wild Blueberries. Continue on to visit the excellent visitor centre, which houses replicas of the native tools found by archaeologists dating back 4500 years ago. Continue on to Annapolis Valley – which boasts spectacular views of the Bay of Fundy and is the Wine Capital of Nova Scotia. This evening why not dine at Churchill’s Restaurant & Lounge at Digby Pines Resort – Churchill’s offer a menu as creative and eclectic with a new twist on old favorites, featuring local ingredients. Overnight Digby.

Day 5 – Annapolis Royal/Wolfville

This morning do a little exploring in the Annapolis Valley Area. Sightseeing suggestions in the area are the Fort Anne National Historic Site, Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens, Garrison Cemetery and the HMCS/CFB Cornwallis Military Museum. Continue on to Wolfville where you will enjoy wine country. This area is surrounded by culinary adventures filled with world-famous seafood, farm-fresh delicacies and of course award-winning wines. This charming university town is known as the cultural and intellectual centre of the valley and is home to many classic shops, boutiques and fine dining. Overnight Wolfville.

Day 6 – Wolfville

Today explore the area of Wolfville further. Visit the Robie Tufts Nature Centre, The Acadia University Art Gallery, Randell House Museum and the Grand Pre National Historic Site to name a few! Later, visit L’Acadie Vineyards, Benjamin Bridge and maybe Blomidon Estate Winery to name a few! Continue on to Grand Pre where you can take a guided tour and learn about grape growing, winemaking and the tasting of wine. All products are made from 100% Nova Scotia grown grapes or apples. While here take advantage of Le Caveau Restaurant which specializes in global cuisine using seasonal local ingredients. You will truly be charmed by the unique atmosphere. Overnight Wolfville.

Day 7 – Wolfville/Tatamagouche

Depart Wolfville and continue along the Glooscap Trail on to Truro – located in the centre of the province and known as the ‘hub of Nova Scotia’. Truro’s location at the very tip of the Bay of Fundy makes it an excellent viewing area for the “tidal bore”– an amazing natural phenomenon. From Truro continue on to Tatamagouche located on the Sunrise Trail. Tatamagouche is a vibrant community where meeting of old and new is in harmony and old Victorian homes and businesses mix with modern homes and facilities. En route, visit Sugar Moon Farm in Earltown. Visit the maple syrup farm and log restaurant. Enjoy a locally inspired maple brunch all day. Free tours and tastings are available in the working sugar camp. Overnight Tatamagouche.

Day 8 – Tatamagouche

Use Tatamagouche as a base to explore the Northumberland Shore. Places to visit include the Fraser Cultural Centre, Sunrise Trail Museum, Cumberland County Museum, Balmoral Grist Mill and the Sutherland Stream Mill. Be sure to visit Jost Vineyards – The visitors are treated to the wonderful Nova Scotia hospitality and award-winning wines. Continue back to Tatamagouche to enjoy a unique dining experience in the dining car at the Train Station Inn. This carefully restored dining car offers the charm and nostalgia of years gone by. Overnight Tatamagouche.

Day 9 – Tatamagouche/Pictou

Depart Tatamagouche and continue along the Sunrise Trail to the town of Pictou – known as the birthplace of New Scotland, It was here that the province’s first Scottish Highlanders landed on the ship ‘Hector’ in 1773. Pictou boasts an award-winning waterfront development that includes the Hector Heritage Quay, where a full scale replica of the Hector has being built using traditional ship building techniques. While here maybe dine at Mrs. Macgregor’s Restaurant, which is conveniently located just steps away from the Ship Hector Replica and Pictou’s waterfront. Overnight Pictou.

Day 10 – Pictou/Baddeck

Depart Pictou and continue along the Sunrise Trail and on to Cape Breton via the Canso Causeway. Breathtaking highland reach into the sky, with rugged, rocky cliffs plunging to the sea and along every twist and turn you will discover culinary adventures wrapped in the rich Scottish Heritage. Continue on to visit Baddeck which is situated on the Bras d’Or Lakes. The most notable resident was Alexander Graham Bell and you can visit the National Historic Site named after him. This evening why not dine at Bell Buoy Restaurant and Supper House overlooking the beautiful Brads d’Or Lakes. Overnight Baddeck.

Day 11 – Baddeck

Today, visit Glenora Distillery located on the Celidh Trail. – Cradled in the picturesque hills of the Mabou Highland, the unsurpassed view is the perfect setting for gourmet cuisine. Continue along the famous Cabot Trail, one of the most spectacular drives in all of Canada. The trail winds around the rocky splendors of Cape Breton’s northern shore, ascending to the incredible plateaus of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Continue on to the Purple Thistle Dining Room at Middlehead Peninsula where you will enjoy a fine dining experience. The Keltic Lodge continues its long-standing reputation for superb dining and has a full view of the Atlantic Ocean. Overnight Baddeck.

Day 12 – Baddeck

Today explore the southern shore of Cape Breton. En route visit Glace Bay which is the start of the Marconi Trail, named after Guglielmo Marconi the Italian inventor who sent the first transatlantic wireless message from here and Glace Bay is also home of the Miners Museum and Marconi National Historical Site. Follow the trail to the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, the largest historical reconstruction in North America. Hear the cannons and muskets fire, watch the changing of the guard and meet the villagers at this meticulously preserved and recreated French fortification of over 250 years ago. Continue back to Baddack where you can enjoy one of the local restaurants. Overnight Baddeck.

Day 13 – Liscomb Mills

Depart Baddeck and continue on to Liscomb Mills via the Canso Causeway, which is located on the Marine Drive. You will pass through many picturesque villages and communities including Guysborough – an inviting community with distinctive architecture overlooking Chedabucto Bay. Continue on to Guysborough is home to “Wilma the Beluga Whale” – a resident for several years! While in the area, visit Cornect Family Farm which has over 100 beehives. The creamed honey is actually “Raw” hand selected honey that is allowed to crystallize as Mother Nature intended. Continue on to visit both Goldboro – once the best gold mining district in the province and Sherbrooke Village – home of the fascinating living history museum. The Museum is a re-enactment of village life in old Nova Scotia. Continue on to Liscomb Mills and dine at Liscombe Lodge Resort in the relaxed atmosphere. Enjoy a traditional meal with that special homemade flavor. Be sure to get a window seat and share your dinner experience with the birds and small animals who feast at the feeders on the river’s bank just outside. Overnight Liscomb Mills.

Day 14 – Liscomb Mills/Halifax

Depart Liscomb Mills and take a leisurely drive back to Halifax. En route visit Musquodoboit Harbour & Valley – a haven for nature lovers, and Martinique Beach – the longest beach in the province. Return back to Halifax Airport, where you will drop off your rental car, ready for your return flight home.
